I Good solid opening which is marred by intonation and slips. Allegro slightly up-beat which brings mis-pitching and uneven rhythms. This sounds rushed. Last note not in tune.
II Quick valse tempo. Cornet plays with authority, ably accompanied. Percussion is sometimes enthusiastic. More <> is needed. A neat finish.
III More <> to make the music effective. Good balance in troms. Percussion too loud before Q. A good marziale just spoilt by the odd clip. Good bridge to IV
IV Good style to open then onto cantabile. Allegro con fuoco needs more rhythmic pulse to give the music style. Good to close.
Overall: intonation at the start and a slightly up-beat allegro did not allow the music to settle.
Thank you.

1. Opening needs a little more definition on the semi-quavers. A rather loud and intonation not secure - side drum very loud. B - some nasty intonation in cornets. The opening tempo is a bit too bright to make the change to C totally convincing. Side drum far too loud at E. Not all top notes secure and not enough poise in the music. A little lacking in care throughout.
2. Accompanying ensemble not balanced - tempo quite brisk and solo cornet above is never fully expressive. K Euphonium sings out nicely but intonation problems persist and there are wrong notes and bad balance. Why is the side drum the loudest instrument towards the end?
3. Not quite capturing the atmosphere. Trombones do well. P - okay -ff is a little extreme after quiet f. Q - rhythmic shape could be tighter. T - okay intonation not good.
4. Good pesante style - cantabile could contrast more. Allegro - percussion ends up on the beat rather than off - not convincing in constant rhythm.
Overall, you had it within you to deliver a better performance in terms of intonation and balance but needed more care in execution.

It Don’t Mean A Thing
A good balanced sound is in evidence. Lovely Troms from A. Well played euph and restrained backing. Good percussion noted.
Basin Street Blues
A nice swing and troms do well although not always with intonation. It’s difficult when so much of it is in unison it shows imperfect intonation immediately.
Puttin’ On The Ritz
Another swing number and which almost comes off with really good moments.
Minnie The Moocher
Again a good feel for this and soloist sounds at home. Intonation not always perfect and lacking in contrast, but well done soloist.
And All That Jazz
Again it comes off quite well except moments when there is doubtful tuning with the inner parts.
It’s all been put together extremely well but the programme doesn’t quite have enough contrast of styles to make it musically interesting. But it has still been appreciated.
