Safeguarding and Policies

Cheltenham Silver Band is serious about safeguarding and takes every opportunity to ensure that the Band provides a safe and enjoyable environment for all its members. We are committed to protecting and safeguarding the welfare of both our young people and vulnerable adults.

Cheltenham Silver Band is committed to protecting and safeguarding the welfare of the children and young people in its care. The Band aims to ensure that all children and young people are welcomed into a safe and caring environment, with a positive attitude to inclusion, learning and support. We recognise that it is the responsibility of all band members to prevent the abuse of young people and children. Any concerns raised will be followed  applying the protocol set out in the Safeguarding Policy.

Two Band members have recently completed the ‘Band Safe’ safeguarding training for brass bands to ensure that our policies and procedures are fit for purpose and in place to minimise risks to the members and integrity of the Band.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I watch the session my child is attending?

Parents are extremely welcome to stay and observe our beginner and training band rehearsals. Some parents do stay and watch, and we will make you feel very welcome at any rehearsal. Any children under the age of 18 will need to be collected from the band room by a trusted adult.

What safeguarding policies and safe working practices do you have in place?

The Band believes that it is important that everyone associated with the Band should, always, show respect and understanding for the safety and welfare of others. Therefore, all Band members are always encouraged to be open and to share concerns or complaints that they may have about any aspect of the Band.

We want every Band member to enjoy their time with Cheltenham Silver Band both at rehearsal and at other engagements so we have just a few rules to ensure that this can happen, and at the same time, the Band can continue to improve and progress.

  • We have a Code of Conduct for all Band members and those adults who work with Training Section members and youth members.

  • We have an inclusive Safeguarding Policy which also includes information about anti-bullying, GDPR and whistleblowing.

  • We have a comprehensive Risk Assessment which is designed to minimise potential risks to the health and safety of all our members.

  • We thoroughly vet the volunteers who regularly work directly with our younger members. This includes reference checks, qualification verification and DBS checks through to ongoing professional development including safeguarding training.

  • We keep a record of emergency contact information for all Band members and a record of any medical information we may need to be aware of to keep members safe. All the information about members that we hold complies with current GDPR legislation. The Band’s full Data Protection and Privacy Policy can be found via our Website.
